How to start a blog
Here are the steps that you need to do to enter the blogging world
- Choose a Blogging Platform
- Pick a name for your blog
- Buy Domain and Hosting
- Set up Your website
Choose a Blogging Platform
The first thing you need to do is, choose a platform for your blog. There are so many different platforms that bloggers use but WordPress is the most famous. So, it is good for you to start with WordPress.
You can use other platforms too at your own risk. Just Joking.
The reason I’m in favor of WordPress is that I’ve searched a lot and what I found is, WordPress is the best for blogging. Even I’ve tried some other platforms too, but nothing is as good as WordPress.
Pick a Name for Your Blog
Now the next step is deciding the name for your blog. Spend some time and choose a unique name for your blog. Here you need to know that you just cannot get any name for your domain, you need to go to Hostgator and search for the name. It will check for you if the desired name is available or not. Hostgator is one of the best platforms to buy domain and hosting. They provide you with very cheap hosting plans. So, I will prefer to buy a domain and hosting from Hostgator. So, when you finalize your domain name with Hostgator, next you need to select the hosting plan.
After selecting the domain name, just scroll down and you will see “Choose a Hosting Plan”. You will find 3 types of packages there: Hatchling, Baby and Business. For a start-up, I will prefer you to go with Hatchling.
After that, pick a username, create a security pin and enter the billing information.
Scroll down and you will find “Add Additional Services”. These are not necessary but you can buy as it adds protection to your website. If not many, do buy the SSL certificate as it will help you to keep the data of your visitors safe. Moreover, the blogs that have SSL certificates tend to rank higher and users trust them.
Now, just review your order and proceed to checkout after accepting the “Terms and Conditions”.
Set-up Your Website
So, you have your domain and hosting ready. All you need to do is, sign in to your Hostgator account.
Click on the Dropdown “Hosting Account” and Select the Domain name you purchased.
Time to start building your website. As I said above, Wordpress is best for blogging. So, just scroll down to “Special Offers” and click on “Get Started with WordPress”.
Fill the form
Admin Email = Your Email
Admin User = Create Username
And click on the “Install WordPress” button.
Installation can take a few minutes so don’t panic. After the installation is finished, you will see “View Credentials” on the orange bar. Click on it and note down the details of the username and password. These are the details that you need to log in to your WordPress account.
Now, click on the “Admin Area” link that will take you to the WordPress login. Use the credentials that you just noted and log in.
Publish Your First Post
So, you are now logged in and ready to publish your first post. For that, Just click on the “Posts” on the left side of your screen and click on the “Add New” after that.
To check how it works just write anything in the title and description area so that you have an idea of how it works.
After this, just click on the publish button and your first post is live.
Just click on the “view post” to check your first post or just go to your blog URL.
